Kuki-Zo MLAs Return to Manipur Assembly After Three-Year Absence Amid Conflict

Kuki-Zo MLAs Kimneo Haokip Hangshing and Haokholet Kipgen returned to the Manipur Assembly after more than three years, drawing praise for dialogue while the Kuki Inpi maintained its separate administration demand.

Saikul MLA Kimneo Haokip Hangshing and Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen attended the eighth session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, marking their return to the House after more than three years of absence amid security fears linked to the Meitei-Kuki conflict.

Their presence at the Assembly drew attention as the two Kuki-Zo legislators resumed participation in proceedings following the prolonged absence. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh welcomed their return, describing it as a positive sign for unity.

Haokholet Kipgen also expressed happiness at being back in the Assembly. Their return was praised as a step toward dialogue and peace, although reactions remained mixed.

The development came despite the Kuki Inpi advising against the MLAs attending the Assembly until demands for a separate administration are met. The organisation's position has added to the differing reactions surrounding the return of the two legislators.
